I prefer to see younger children in their own home as they tend to be more relaxed. It is often better to see older children in nursery or school (depending on the difficulty they are experiencing) This is the first step in finding out about your child’s needs and takes the form of a no obligation, information discussion about the difficulties your child is experiencing.
If we agree that your child would benefit from therapy, the next step would be an initial assessment.
A full assessment looking at your child’s attention and listening, play, understanding of spoken language , use of spoken language, speech sounds and social communication is an important first step to ensure that their Speech and Language Therapy support is meeting your child’s needs.
This will include a detailed discussion with parents/cares to gain background informationand discuss concerns and progress so far, as well as assessment to identify your child’s strengths and needs so that therapy and recommendations can meet their needs.
A full report is included in the cost. The report will include: Background information , assessment findings, recommended targets (if erquired) and a list of strategies that all adults in contact with your child can use in order to support their communication.
This includes a case history and full assessment of your child’s communication strengths and needs.
This option also included a target sheet which will include: a list of targets to be worked on with your child as well as strategies that all adults who are in contact with your child can use to support their communication. (This is not a full report)
Therapy sessions include 1:1 therapy and time to review and discuss next steps with parents/carers. A brief summary of any discussion will be emailed to parents after each therapy session (cost included). These sessions are usually 30-45 minutes. If your child needs the session times to be much shorter, prices can be agreed on an individual basis.
Therapy sessions can take place at your home or in your child’s nursery or school. It is important that all sessions are also attended by a parents, or member of their educational staff so that the adult can see how to support the child and carry on with the therapy activities on a regular basis.
I can provide training to parents and /or educational staff about a range of communication difficulties and therapy approaches.
