Speech and Language Therapy is a collaborative journey that involves active participation from both the therapist, parents and other key adults supporting your child. The therapy process is designed to be transparent, engaging and centred around the unique needs of your child.

Therapy sessions are designed to be engaging and enjoyable for your child. When a child is at ease and comfortable they will be ready to learn! Therefore, I will incorporate play-based and interactive techniques that create a positive and comfortable environment.

Working with NHS Speech and Language Therapy:

It is always recommended that people try and access assessment and therapy from their local Speech and Language Therapy service.

If your child is on the waiting list or caseload for NHS therapy, please let me know so that we can work together to provide the most effective assessment and therapy.

Speech and Language Therapy can support:

Understanding language: Often children have difficulty understanding language which may have been missed. These children can sometimes appear to not be listening and attending to adults talking to them.

Communicating with Others: Effective communication is a fundamental life skill: it is needed in order to develop relationships with others, express thoughts, feelings and ideas and for academic learning.

Not all communication is verbal and alternative communication systems such as Aided Language Displays (ALDs) and Makaton signing have been proven to develop effective communication for children noy yet able or ready to communication verbally.

Expressive Language: developing vocabulary and linking words into sentences are important for effective spoken language. Some children find it difficult to express what they want to say, including difficulties with word finding, grammar and sequencing their thoughts.

Speech (Saying words clearly): Speech and Language Therapists have a central role working with children with speech sound delays and disorders. The techniques used will depend on the nature of a child’s speech sound difficulties.

Stammering: For children facing challenges with stammering , I can provide specialist support such as the Palin PCI approach. The Michael Palin Centre | STAMMA
